A good mix for almost every bonsai
Approximately 75% Akadama and 25% Pumice. 7 litre bag of medium grain size (3-7 mm approx.).
Akadama is a substrate that the Japanese have been using for years for the cultivation of their bonsai. As it is granulated, it allows the bonsai to drain perfectly without waterlogging, thus avoiding root rot and making the roots more aerated.
It is a neutral pH product that does not contain organic matter, but it retains the water and nutrients that we provide the plant with very well.
Although it is not essential, it is advisable to pass it through a sieve to remove the dust and prevent it from clumping, as well as to obtain different grain sizes.
Pumice is a Japanese substrate of volcanic origin, with high hardness and good water retention. Due to its almost neutral pH, it is ideal for mixing with akadama in different proportions and using with a wide variety of species, especially those that do not require an acidic substrate, such as olive trees. In addition, its lightness reduces the weight of large trees and/or those in the cultivation phase.
