In Japanese folklore, lobsters, known as ise-ebi or spiny lobsters, are regarded as symbols of longevity, good fortune and prosperity. Their characteristic curved backs and long antennae evoke the image of a wise old man, linking them with old age and a long life. These creatures feature in both traditional Japanese art and tales of yōkai, as well as in legends relating to the marine world.
