Elegant rectangular bonsai pot, unglazed, with a chōhō-bachi lip. It features a gaku-iri or gaku-men style frame: the term gaku refers to the visible "frame" on the body of the piece, while iri means "interior," creating a refined framed effect that adds depth and distinction to the design, all enhanced by defined kumo-ashi cloud-shaped legs. It has a small repair with metallic paint that imitates the aesthetic of kintsugi in gold. Originating from Tokoname, the piece is sealed by the now-defunct Yamakou kiln.
Yamakou is a kiln dedicated to the industrial production of high-quality pots, made with excellent clay, albeit within highly standardized processes. It is listed in the well-known Tokoname catalog, although its mark is often indistinct or difficult to read. For years, its pots were primarily used for cultivation and intermediate stages of bonsai; however, over time, the quality of its clay has fostered the development of excellent patinas. These pots are now increasingly difficult to find.
