An elegant rectangular bonsai pot, or choho-bachi, faithfully evoking the classic forms of ancient kowatari. It is distinguished by the understated band (himo) that runs along its central body, lending balance and character to the piece. Signed by the late Tokoname artist Itsuo Takeuchi. Eiraku.
A kiln named Eiraku, like the ancient coins issued during the reign of the third Ming Dynasty emperor, Yongle (1402–1424). These coins were exported in large quantities to Japan during the Muromachi period, and circulated de facto during the Edo period, popularizing the name. The creator of this Tokoname ceramic workshop, now in its extinction, is Itsuo Takeuchi.
