Matsushita Reiji (松下礼司), known by his artistic name Reihou (礼峰), was born in 1931 in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. He is considered the founder of the Reihou kiln and a leading figure in the production of bonsai pots within the Tokoname-yaki tradition. He began his ceramic career in 1950, initially working on industrial clay products, common in the region after the war. Around 1972, he shifted his focus to creating bonsai pots, a discipline in which he achieved great recognition for his technical mastery and his understated, functional aesthetic. In 1987, he was recognized as a Master Craftsman by the Tokoname authorities, solidifying his prestige within traditional Japanese ceramics.
