Unglazed bonsai pot. Its straight lines make it ideal for conifers in formal styles. The lip slopes outwards, creating a smooth, gradual "soto-buchi" effect. Handmade by the renowned artist Maruhei of Tokoname.
Watanabe Kei, Yuushu Keishin Maruhei, known simply as Maruhei, was recognized as a master craftsman and awarded the medal of the Order of the Sacred Treasure. His kiln remained active until the second decade of the 21st century in Tokoname and was renowned for its smooth lines and the clay used in its production, which is distinguished by its exceptional hardness after firing and the development of beautiful patinas over time. This effect is particularly noticeable in the light or golden clays also known as Touka-dei or "peach blossom" clays.
