A splendid porcelain bonsai pot, created and hand-painted by the renowned artist Heian Yusen. Executed in the aka-e technique, this refined style of Japanese ceramic decoration is distinguished by the predominant use of red, applied over the glaze with iron oxides, often combined with other hues to achieve richly detailed compositions. The piece features an elegant dragon motif in the midst of a storm, rendered with remarkable precision and dynamism. It is housed in its original wooden box (kiribako), measuring 12 × 10.8 × 6.4 cm, and comes with its protective cloth or tomonuno. Both the box and the cloth are signed by the distributor.
Heian Yusen belongs to a group of ceramicists influenced by the ceramic tradition of the Kyoto region, and is especially linked to the figure of Tsukinowa Yusen (1908–1998), recognized as one of the great masters in the making of hand-decorated pots.
