A bonsai pot glazed in a spectacular "oxblood" red. Created by the renowned Tokoname artist Shimizu Masakazu, from the Youzan Toen kiln.
Shimizu Masakazu is the father of the current kiln leader, who has become a very popular "Eimei" potter. Masakazu is the founder of the kiln and the first generation to run it, since 1965. Although his son's fame seems to have surpassed his own, he is a well-regarded potter in Tokoname, and his kiln produces a range of quality pots, especially in mame, shohin, and chuhin sizes, at prices that are still quite reasonable. Some of his glazes, particularly his version of Namako glaze and the "oxblood" reds, are quite spectacular and highly sought after by collectors.
