Rectangular bonsai pot, crafted by Tosui and finished with an elegant mottled cream-colored glaze. The mark indicates that the piece was made between 1953 and 1963, a period during which the artist used the signature “Mizuno Tosui”.
Masao Mizuno was born at the beginning of the 20th century and eventually became independent from the family kiln founded by his father, Mizuno Shakataro (Harumatsu). In 1953, he took over the management of the TOSUI brand, which from then on became known as “Mizuno Tosui.” After Chotaro's death in 1959, Masao adopted the name Tosui exclusively, in reference to the place where he trained with his father: Tosui-in, which literally means “the green garden of pottery.”
