WATERING

WATERING

How to water a bonsai well is one of the most frequent questions that every amateur who is starting out asks himself and perhaps it is the most important part, while in nature the roots can develop according to their needs and possibilities, in bonsais they remain limited to the space of the pot, so they are completely dependent on us to get the water they need.

The amount of water you should give to the plant is conditioned by the size of the pot, the species, the climate and the substrate you use, the important thing is that the latter has a good drainage, so that the excess water will easily drain out of the hole in the pot. In general, you should water your tree when the top layer of the substrate is dry. This is easily seen if you use substrates such as akadama, which changes colour (to lighter) when it is dry.

In order to oxygenate the irrigation water and prevent the granular soils from running out of the pot, it is important to always water with a very fine stream of water that falls in the form of rain. This can be easily achieved by buying a specific watering can for bonsai, in Laos Garden you have different models and with different capacities. If you have a garden, you may prefer the convenience of attaching a watering lance to the hose, the ones we sell in our shop have much smaller holes than those of conventional lances and therefore their watering is finer.

Finally, if you only have two or three bonsais, you can choose to water them with adapters that fit perfectly to the universal plastic bottles and act as a watering can.
