Yamaaki was founded in 1920 with one of the oldest contemporary kilns in Tokoname, Akiji Kataoka (real name), being its founder. Akiji Kataoka died in 1990 and his sons carried on the business. His stage name is Juuoudou (Juodo) Shousen, although he is better known simply as Shousen.
